Bergfried habe ich erst Anfang dieses Jahres kennengelernt und war mit den ersten Tönen von Romantik I + II sofort schockverliebt. Eine mittelalterlich inspirierte Heavy Metal/AOR – Band, die zugleich mit einem Country-Song aufwartet? Best of both worlds. Es gibt wohl momentan keine andere Band für mich, die mich lauthals mitpfeifen und ausgelassen mittanzen lässt, selbst mit Kopfhörern in der Öffentlichkeit, kann mich niemand vom Abfeiern der Musik abhalten. Jeder Ton von Bergfried macht einfach glücklich, strahlt eine Leichtigkeit und Lebenslust aus, die ihresgleichen sucht.
Jetzt kam im Oktober das neue Album raus und was soll ich dazu sagen: Einfach nur pure Geilerei! Sarah von den von mir ebenfalls heiß geliebten Smoulder darf auch wieder ein paar Töne beisteuern, was einfach jedes Release nur aufwertet. Man muss natürlich eine leichte Affirmation für Keyboard-Kitsch, süße Melodien und auch ein wenig 80iger Pop haben, aber lässt man sich einmal auf dieses Abenteuer ein, spürt man gleich die musikalische und emotionale Klasse, die Bergfried ausstrahlen. Und Obacht: Absoluter Gänsehautalarm beim Einsatz der Hammondorgel auf Romantik III! Ich liebe einfach, mit welcher Kreativität und Bandbreite Erech III. von Lothringen die Musik von Bergfried ausstattet. Auch Anna de Savoy steuert mit ihrem Gesang enorm zur Emotionalität der Band bei.
Produktionstechnisch wurde nochmal eine ordentliche Schippe draufgelegt, steht der Musik äußerst gut. Erstaunlich, wie eine noch so junge Band, auch mit der enorm räumlichen Entfernung der Musiker:innen, solch fantastische Musik erschaffen kann. Für 2026 kündigen sich schon erste Live-Shows an, ich bin äußerst gespannt. Absolutes Highlight und wohl bester Songs des Albums ist für mich „Dark Wings“ („AND I SET THIS WORLD ON FIRE“!!!), der gleichzeitig als Opener die fantastische Reise einleitet. Aber auch „Queen of the Dead“ mit seiner rasenden Grundstimmung und der folgende Song „For the Cursed“, der mit dem Hammondorgel-Intro, sind großartige Kunst. Das Album macht mich einfach glücklich und zaubert mir gute Laune und ein Strahlen ins Gesicht.

I only discovered Bergfried at the beginning of this year and fell head over heels in love with them from the very first notes of Romantik I + II. A medieval-inspired heavy metal/AOR band that also has a country song up its sleeve? Best of both worlds. There’s probably no other band at the moment that makes me whistle along loudly and dance exuberantly, even with headphones on in public, no one can stop me from celebrating the music. Every note from Bergfried simply makes you happy, radiating a lightness and zest for life that is second to none.
Now the new album came out in October, and what can I say: it’s just pure awesomeness! Sarah from Smoulder, another band I love, also contributes a few notes, which only enhances every release. Of course, you have to have a slight affinity for keyboard kitsch, sweet melodies, and a little 80s pop, but once you embark on this adventure, you immediately feel the musical and emotional class that Bergfried exudes. And beware: the Hammond organ on Romantik III will give you goosebumps! I just love the creativity and range with which Erech III. von Lothringen embellishes Bergfried’s music. Anna de Savoy also contributes enormously to the band’s emotionality with her vocals.
In terms of production, they’ve really upped their game, which suits the music extremely well. It’s amazing how such a young band, even with the enormous physical distance between the musicians, can create such fantastic music. The first live shows are already announced for 2026, and I’m extremely excited. For me, the absolute highlight and probably the best song on the album is „Dark Wings“ (AND I SET THIS WORLD ON FIRE!!!), which also opens the fantastic journey. But „Queen of the Dead“, with its frenzied mood, and the following song, „For the Cursed“, with its Hammond organ intro, are also great pieces of art. The album simply makes me happy and puts me in a good mood, bringing a smile to my face.
