Nahtmar – Primitive Black Outburst

“There comes a time when no sun will rise to greet the earth.”

This line is scientifically plausible in the ultimate cosmic sense. In the sense of NAHTMAR, that line is a good way to enter this record because Primitive Black Outburst is simple and cold.

NAHTMAR play what you could call primitive or raw black metal, but honestly I do not care too much about finding the exact genre fit. Think somewhere between BONE AWL and old CRAFT and you are not too far away. The sound is rough, but not in a “look how raw we are” way. It just feels natural. Like this is exactly how these songs should sound. What really got me are the chants by Vulpest, especially in “Glorie”. This is not the highlight of the record, because the songs are too good for me to reduce it to one moment. But it is such a great idea to use a vocal line like this, and to have the attitude to start off the record with it. These five songs are strong. The tape sound is great.

There is no big concept needed here. No overthinking. Just a really good raw black metal record with punk in its bones.

Originally released in 2024, the sold-out cassette is now available again as a second press through Iconoclasm Conquest. Limited to 50 copies. I guess this one will be gone again pretty soon.
