Munich has always had great bands to offer. Think of the days of Paint the Town Red, Heartbreak Kid, Todeskommando Atomsturm, or Lake Pussy — just to name a few.
With their second record Furiosa are taking there very own spot in the history of „Monaco di Baviera“.
Did I just hear Sinking Ships? Furiosa open their new record with a track that takes me back to the days when the melancholic hardcore band was all over the place. The melody of “The Ease” instantly gives me Disconnecting-vibes like the band from Seattle would have made punk rather than hardcore.
But this is different, of course. It breathes the energy, rawness, and catchiness the four-piece from munich already established on their 2023 demo. What an opener, I’m all in right away.
With “Suburbia” they step back a little. Still angry and energetic this song powers on in mid tempo. Lyrically, the desolate lack of anonymity, the dullness and stupidity, that can shape suburban and rural communities is called out. Greyness, white noise, and perfectly maintained yards paint a picture that is, unfortunately, all too real.
There’s a touch of Fucked Up somewhere in those five songs.
The longest drumroll I’ve heard in a long time introduces “Darker Days Ahead” and Turbonegro would surely approve this track.
Sitting right at the heart of the album, it captures the full sonic spectrum of „Dead Town„. Imagine Turbonegro jamming with The Distillers and above everything stands Furiosa’s power.
That’s also true for “Dead Town”. The shortest track on the record, and easily the most straightforward. This sing-along will be a banger live. A no holds barred message to the city. By the way: if you ever get the chance to catch Furiosa live, make sure you do so.
“Goodbye Memories”. What a closer.
That middle part? Absolute gold and the beat change is pure madness.
Honestly, Furiosa strike me as the kind of band that would shine releasing only EPs. Their mix great riffing, enough catchiness and playful energy creates songs, which fit this format perfectly.
Not just because of that here’s my final bold comparison: For me, there’s a touch of Fucked Up somewhere in those five songs.
As I’m writing this it’s digital-only, but a Release show is announced for the 6th of December 2025 at Kafe Kult, Munich. Be there if you can.
